  8.      AST PREMIUM EXEC 386SX-25 AND CARRIER CORP. SOFTWARE PROTECTION KEY

  11. PROBLEM:       When using the application "Building Supervisor III" from
  12.                Carrier Corp. on the Premium Exec 386SX-25, the application
  13.                will fail to load and display the error message "Access key
  14.                not attached!"
  15.  
  16. CAUSE:         This problem is caused by an incompatibility between the
  17.                Carrier Corp. software protection key and the parallel port
  18.                implementation of the Premium Exec.
  19.  
  20. AFFECTED
  21. SYSTEMS:       Premium Exec 386SX-20 (All models)
  22.                Premium Exec 386SX-25 (All models)
  23.                Premium Exec 386SX-25C (All models)
  24.  
  25. SOLUTION:      AST Sustaining Engineering has determined that this problem
  26.                will not be fixed on the Premium Exec.  Carrier Corp. has
  27.                advised AST that a software patch may be available which eases
  28.                the timing requirements for accessing the security key.
  29.                Customers experiencing this problem should contact Carrier
  30.                Corp. and request the software patch for AST notebooks.
